In the National Park Torres del Paine a third hanging bridge was built close to the Glacier Grey and the El Paso basecamp of the Conaf. It was constructed in the third canyon of the route Macizo Paine.
The bridge was the outcome of a project between the CONAF, the United States Conservation Volunteers International Program and the United States Forest Service. These three associations together financed the human resources as well as the materials, which incurred a cost of about $ 70.000.000.
With 56 meters of lenght, the bridge belongs to the longest hanging bridges in any protected natural area within Chile.
The project was completed on March 21st of this year after three months of work. The nine workers who built the bridge stayed in the El Paso basecamp. Three of them were Northamerican volunteers including one engineer who was in charge of the project. The initial process started in 2011 with the construction of the first hanging bridge in the area was accomplished, and in 2015 the second bridge was built.
